Supreme Court to Issue Final Rulings Today, Including Birthright Citizenship
The Supreme Court convened this morning for what is expected to be one of its final sessions of the term, with the court announcing it may release opinions at its 10 a.m. session. Among the eight rulings still pending is the landmark case Trump v. Barbara, which will determine whether President Trump’s executive order denying birthright citizenship to children born to undocumented or temporary-visa parents is constitutional. Also undecided: whether Trump can fire Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook and whether transgender female athletes may compete in women’s sports.¹ ²
Johnson to Send Housing Bill to Trump Today
Speaker Mike Johnson announced Sunday he will formally deliver the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to the White House on Monday, pressing Trump to sign it into law. Trump canceled a planned signing ceremony last week, demanding Congress first pass the SAVE Act. Housing costs remain among voters’ top concerns heading into the November midterms, and the bill drew support from both parties before the standoff.³ ⁴
Tillis: Passing SAVE Act Before Midterms Is an ‘Impossible Task’
Retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) told CNN Sunday that President Trump’s demand to pass the SAVE Act before the midterm elections cannot be met in the time remaining, calling it an “impossible task.” Tillis urged Republicans to stop sowing doubt about election integrity and instead run on their legislative record. The SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, lacks the 60 Senate votes needed to advance.⁵ ⁶
Cassidy: Trump Treats Congress as ‘Merely an Appendage’
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) told CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday that President Trump treats Congress as “merely an appendage” of the executive branch, recounting a shouting match at a closed Senate lunch where Trump called him a “lunatic.” Cassidy said he eventually voted against the Iran war powers resolution after a Situation Room briefing, but warned that any Iran peace agreement should be submitted to the Senate as a treaty requiring a two-thirds vote for ratification.⁷ ⁸
Trump Nominates Oklahoma Lawman to Lead ICE
President Trump nominated Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and U.S. Marine, on Saturday to serve as the first Senate-confirmed director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement since 2017. The nomination comes as ICE enforcement actions have accelerated nationwide, and the agency has operated without a Senate-confirmed leader for years. The Senate will need to schedule a confirmation hearing before the chamber returns from recess in mid-July.⁹ ¹⁰
Mamdani Claims Socialists Can Win ‘Anywhere in America’
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared on ABC’s This Week Sunday, arguing that the decisive sweep of his endorsed candidates in last week’s New York Democratic primaries proves that democratic socialism can win anywhere in the country. Senior Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, dismissed the New York results as irrelevant to competitive November battlegrounds. The debate has sparked a fresh internal Democratic Party fight over the direction of the party heading into the midterms.¹¹,¹²

Alaska Faces Ballot Crisis: Two Dan Sullivans, One June 30 Deadline
An Alaska Superior Court ruled Friday, June 27, that a same-named challenger, Dan J. Sullivan of Petersburg, can appear alongside incumbent U.S. Sen. Dan S. Sullivan on the August 18 Republican primary ballot. State election officials face a hard deadline of today, June 30, to appeal to the Alaska Supreme Court before ballots must be sent to the printer. The Division of Elections had originally disqualified the challenger, but the judge found no legal basis for the removal.¹³ ¹⁴
