Trump’s Financial Disclosure: $2.2B Earned, Conflicts Flagged
President Trump’s annual financial disclosure, filed on Tuesday, July 1, with the Office of Government Ethics, revealed that he earned at least $2.2 billion in 2025, the vast majority from cryptocurrency ventures. His family’s World Liberty Financial crypto business generated nearly $800 million, while his Trump meme coin sales added another $635 million. The White House said the president “has never engaged or will ever engage in conflicts of interest,” though ethics experts note that sitting presidents are exempt from the conflict-of-interest laws that apply to other federal employees. 1, 2
USMCA Trade Pact in Limbo as July 1 Deadline Passes
The United States allowed the July 1 statutory review deadline for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to pass on Wednesday without extending it, kicking off what could be years of uncertain negotiations. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held a virtual meeting with his Mexican and Canadian counterparts and then formally blocked an extension, saying the U.S. will “continue to engage” to address trade deficits and the agreement’s shortcomings. The agreement governs nearly $2 trillion in annual North American trade, and the next round of talks with Mexico is expected the week of July 20 in Mexico City. 3, 4
Brennan Sues Trump DOJ: “Vindictive” Probe, Records at Risk
Former CIA Director John Brennan filed a lawsuit in Washington federal court on Wednesday, July 1, demanding that President Trump and his top law enforcement officials preserve all records related to what Brennan’s attorneys describe as a politically motivated criminal investigation against him. The 46-page filing names President Trump, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and FBI Director Kash Patel as defendants, alleging the DOJ has been “ginning up” charges at the “direct urging” of the president. No criminal charges have been filed, and Brennan is asking a judge to compel the government to retain more than ten categories of internal records before they can be destroyed. 5, 6
NPR Reports Justice Alito Retiring, Then Quickly Retracts
NPR published and retracted a story on Tuesday, July 1, erroneously reporting that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was retiring, after veteran court correspondent Nina Totenberg, 82, misheard an announcement as she was leaving the courtroom. The story was live for roughly five minutes before NPR’s editor-in-chief pulled it, issued a public apology, and had Totenberg appear on “All Things Considered” to explain the error. Totenberg called it “the worst professional mistake of my more than 50 years in journalism” and wrote a personal apology to Justice Alito. 7, 8
Trump Rides Freedom Train to Open Roosevelt Library in ND
President Trump traveled to Medora, North Dakota, on Wednesday, July 1, for the dedication of the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, arriving on the red-white-and-blue “Freedom250 Train” in what was the first time Trump has traveled by rail as president. He cut an orange ribbon, gifted Roosevelt’s Medal of Honor to the museum, and announced $750,000 in federal funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The trip also marked the debut of the refurbished Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar that will now serve as Air Force One. The library opens to the public on July 4. 9, 10

Colorado Progressives Rout Incumbents in Statewide Sweep
Colorado Democrats delivered a sharp leftward verdict in their Tuesday, July 1, primary, as results confirmed that 29-year-old democratic socialist Melat Kiros defeated 30-year incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette in Denver’s 1st Congressional District by a two-to-one margin. In the governor’s race, Attorney General Phil Weiser upset former U.S. Senator Michael Bennet 55% to 45%, while incumbent Sen. John Hickenlooper fended off a progressive challenge from state Sen. Julie Gonzales. The results echoed the progressive wave that swept New York City primaries a week earlier and intensified the Democratic Party’s internal debate over how far left it can move before November’s midterms. 11, 12
