Rep. Ralph Norman Enters SC Senate Race
South Carolina Republican Congressman Ralph Norman announced Saturday that he will run for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, entering the race as one of the first major Republicans to do so. Norman said he wants to represent South Carolina in the Senate and pledged to support President Trump’s agenda while carrying on Graham’s legacy. The filing period for the Republican special primary begins Tuesday, July 21, and runs through July 28.1
Trump Orders New Iran Strikes After US Troop Deaths
President Trump on Saturday defended new U.S. airstrikes on Iran after an attack in Jordan killed two American service members and left another missing, calling the deaths “a very sad thing” while insisting the military campaign must continue. The U.S. Central Command said the strikes marked the eighth consecutive night of American action against Iran, aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to disrupt oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s government said Saturday it is suspending its commitments under last month’s interim ceasefire framework with Washington.2
DOJ, DHS Launch Election Integrity Tracking Site
The Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security launched a joint website Saturday detailing federal election-integrity enforcement actions across all 50 states, including an interactive map of lawsuits and criminal cases. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said the Civil Rights Division has sued 30 states and Washington, D.C., over voter roll maintenance, uncovering hundreds of thousands of dead people and noncitizens still registered to vote. The Justice Department will also deploy election monitors to a dozen jurisdictions ahead of upcoming primaries in Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Virginia.3

Maine Democrats Rally Behind Troy Jackson for Senate
Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson built an overwhelming lead Saturday in the compressed race to replace Graham Platner and take on Republican Senator Susan Collins, winning about 300 of 319 delegate slots up for grabs in the first day of county-level voting. Eight counties selected delegates Saturday, with the remaining counties set to vote Sunday. Democrats view Maine as essential to any hope of retaking the Senate majority in November, and the nominating convention will be held July 25 in Bangor.4
Wisconsin Governor Race Upended by Late Reentry
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley reentered Wisconsin’s Democratic primary for governor on Saturday with a fresh endorsement from outgoing Governor Tony Evers, just ten days after Crowley had dropped out and backed Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez. Rodriguez ended her own campaign Friday amid a campaign finance scandal, throwing the race into chaos less than a month before the August 11 primary. Evers called Crowley “not just a candidate who can win in November” but “the right candidate for the people of Wisconsin.”5
