The Mahoning County Democratic Party said the suspect knocked volunteers down before being arrested with multiple weapons. Republican Governor Mike DeWine, who cannot seek reelection due to term limits, called the attack “always unacceptable” and said the case is now with law enforcement. New Jersey GOP Demands Lieutenant Governor Resign
On Sunday morning, the New Jersey Republican Party called on Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell to resign, saying an internal probe into allegations of inappropriate conduct toward women had been kept quiet for months. State GOP Chairwoman Christine Giordano Hanlon said Caldwell also serves as secretary of state, overseeing elections, and that his office “cannot function under these circumstances.” She said Governor Mikie Sherrill’s administration, which promised transparency, should not have kept the investigation secret since early spring. Caldwell cannot be removed unilaterally by Sherrill and can leave office only through resignation, death, or legislative impeachment. Utah Governor Cox Urges Political Civility Sunday
On Sunday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said in an interview marking one year since Charlie Kirk’s assassination that seventy percent of Americans are tired of hyperpartisanship. Cox, discussing his new book “Off Ramp,” said he was having lunch when Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University last September, calling it a moment he cannot forget. The governor said he was struck by remarks from President Trump at Kirk’s memorial, in which Trump said he could not follow Kirk’s example of loving opponents. Cox, who did not vote for Trump in 2016 or 2020, said he supports the president but believes both parties share blame for divisions. 5
