Our Guiding Principles
The Need for Principles to Preserve Our Democracy
Every four years, the major political parties write new platforms to outline their positions on America’s major issues. Those platforms constantly change because they are designed to appeal to different voting blocs and adapt to whatever is popular at the moment. While that approach might work for winning campaigns, it provides no framework for how to build consensus or effectively govern the country.
When we built the Centercratic Party, we took a different approach. We realized that if we truly want to build an organization that works for all Americans, we need a clear understanding of how we will protect our democratic system, how we will treat one another even when we disagree, and how we will approach the serious work of solving national problems.
The result of that effort is our nine guiding principles. These are not temporary campaign promises. They are the structural guardrails that dictate how our party operates and how our leaders govern. They ensure that we remain focused on evidence-based problem-solving, mutual respect, and broad consensus.
To make them clear and actionable, we organized these nine principles into three essential pillars. First, the Democratic Foundation establishes the structural rules required to protect our institutions and ensure equal justice. Second, Collaborative Governance dictates exactly how we engage with one another to build consensus rather than division. Finally, Principled Leadership outlines our commitment to governing responsibly and defending freedom both at home and abroad.
We invite you to read the nine principles that guide our work.
The Nine Principles
Democratic Foundation
The structural safeguards that protect our democratic system and ensure accountability, integrity, and equal justice.
1. Safeguard Our Democratic System
Govern through compromise, not domination. Reject extreme tactics by special interests and defend the Constitution for everyone.
2. Limit Terms for Accountability
Impose term limits on public office to prevent entrenchment and ensure representatives remain accountable to voters.
3. Protect Election Integrity
Guarantee transparent, fair, and nonpartisan elections. Uphold certified results and let voters decide outcomes through lawful processes.
4. One Law for All
The law applies equally to all. Independent courts ensure fair process and protect basic rights.
Collaborative Governance
How we engage with one another through honest debate, mutual respect, and a commitment to building broad consensus.
5. Debate with Facts and Dignity
Conduct fact-based debates with respect. Acknowledge disagreements. Prohibit personal attacks and bad-faith tactics.
6. Seek Unity through Broad Support
Build policies that earn broad, lasting support. Where consensus is out of reach, respect that communities will find their own path.
Principled Leadership
The commitment to govern effectively, defend freedom, and lead by example at home and around the world.
7. Govern with a Balanced Approach
Reject both government overreach and government absence. Provide essential services, measure results, end what fails, and enforce fiscal discipline.
8. Defend Our Freedom
Unite with allies to deter aggression and defend free nations against military, cyber, and economic threats.
9. Exemplify Global Leadership
Demonstrate American and democratic values through dignified, restrained, and humane leadership at home and abroad.
