Trump Demands Tougher Terms; Iran Deal Still Elusive
President Trump on Saturday sent the proposed ceasefire framework back to negotiators, asking for tougher language on the removal of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and the specific conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reported that Trump wants to reinforce several points personally important to him and that Iranian officials were given roughly three days to respond. “We’re close to a very good deal,” Trump said, but added that if Washington’s demands are not met, the U.S. would “end it a different way.” 1, 2, 3
Trump Calls for Judge’s Impeachment Over Kennedy Center
In a lengthy Truth Social post on Saturday, President Trump called for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper after Cooper ruled Friday that the Kennedy Center cannot be renamed without an act of Congress and must remove Trump’s name within 14 days. Trump described Cooper as a “Highly Conflicted, Crooked Federal Judge,” questioned the judge’s impartiality due to his wife’s political background, and predicted the center will “soon be closed, probably never to open again.” The Kennedy Center announced it plans to appeal the ruling. 4, 5, 6
Over 10,000 Federal Lawyers Have Left Since Trump Took Office
The New York Times reported Sunday that more than 10,000 attorneys have left the federal government since the start of 2025, representing roughly 20 percent of the government’s legal workforce as of the end of 2024. The departures, a mix of resignations in protest of administration policies and reductions from DOGE-related workforce cuts, have left some agencies without enough lawyers to implement policy or defend the government in court. The Justice Department accounts for the largest share of departures, with the Defense Department and the Department of Health and Human Services also heavily affected. 7, 8
Guardian Exposes Trump-Linked Firm’s $1B Balkans Energy Deal
The Guardian published a detailed investigation on Saturday showing that AAFS Infrastructure and Energy, an obscure company with no prior record of large-scale projects, is on the verge of securing over $1 billion in contracts to build and operate a natural gas pipeline across the Balkans. The firm is led by Jesse Binnall, a former Trump personal attorney, and Joseph Flynn, the brother of Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Bosnian lawmakers passed legislation awarding the contract without competitive bidding, a move Transparency International described as a “dangerous precedent.” 9, 10
Trump Moves to Cut Immigrants Off From Jobs, Health Care, Housing
The New York Times reported Saturday that for more than a year, Trump administration officials have been systematically using every available administrative tool to restrict immigrants, including many here legally, from securing employment, obtaining medical services, receiving financial assistance, and enrolling their children in subsidized programs such as Head Start. The overarching goal, according to documents and officials cited in the report, is to make the United States less attractive to immigrants and to accelerate voluntary departures. Advocates warn the effort now extends well beyond undocumented residents and is reaching legal immigrants, DACA recipients, and mixed-status families. 11, 12

Maine Democrat Platner’s Campaign Rocked by Sexting Reports
New reporting by the New York Times and The Guardian, published Saturday, revealed that the wife of Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner told a senior campaign aide last year that her husband had exchanged sexually explicit messages with as many as twelve women. The campaign had treated the matter as private while conducting internal opposition research. Platner, already facing scrutiny over a tattoo associated with Nazi symbolism and offensive social media posts, is challenging Republican incumbent Senator Susan Collins in what Democrats had viewed as one of their best Senate pickup opportunities in 2026. 13, 14, 15
