Comey Indicted Again Over Instagram Seashell Post
A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted former FBI Director James Comey for the second time, charging him with two counts of threatening the president over an Instagram photo he posted in 2025 showing seashells on a beach arranged to spell “86 47.” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the charges at a press conference, saying each count carries a maximum sentence of ten years. Comey called the indictment politically motivated. A warrant for his arrest was also issued. 1, 2, 3
King Charles Urges Unity in Historic Address to Congress
King Charles III delivered a rare address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday during his four-day state visit to the United States, urging Americans and the British to stand together in defense of democracy and against isolationism. The King praised the NATO alliance, called for continued U.S. support for Ukraine, and condemned political violence in the wake of last weekend’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting. He and Queen Camilla attended a State Dinner at the White House Tuesday evening. 4, 5, 6
FCC Orders Early Review of Disney’s ABC Broadcast Licenses
The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday directed Disney to submit broadcast license renewals for all of its ABC-owned and -operated television stations within 30 days, years ahead of their scheduled 2028 review. The FCC cited an ongoing investigation into Disney’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies as potentially violating anti-discrimination rules. The action comes days after President Trump called on ABC to fire late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Disney said its stations have consistently operated in full compliance with FCC regulations. 7, 8, 9
Congress at Standstill on DHS, FISA, and War Powers
With FISA’s Section 702 surveillance authority set to expire Wednesday and DHS emergency pay funds expected to run dry by Thursday, Congress remained deadlocked on Tuesday. Speaker Mike Johnson has not yet secured enough Republican votes for any of the three top priorities: a permanent DHS funding deal, a long-term FISA reauthorization, or a War Powers vote on the Iran conflict. Democrats continue to tie DHS funding to immigration enforcement reforms, and the House Rules Committee failed again to advance either bill. 10, 11, 12
Iran Situation Room Meeting Yields No Breakthrough
President Trump held a Situation Room meeting with his national security team on Tuesday to review Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the U.S. blockade and suspending the threat of resumed bombing. Multiple news outlets reported that Trump does not appear open to the offer, which would postpone nuclear talks to a later date. The naval blockade remained in place, with oil prices reaching their highest level since the start of the Iran conflict. 13, 14

DeSantis Opens Redistricting Session, Targets Four Dem Seats
Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature convened a special redistricting session on Tuesday to consider Governor Ron DeSantis’s proposed congressional map, which would redraw districts to give Republicans four additional House seats, shifting the delegation from 20 Republicans and seven Democrats to 24 Republicans and four Democrats. The map targets Democratic incumbents Kathy Castor, Darren Soto, Lois Frankel, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has called the plan illegal, and legal challenges are already being prepared. 15, 16, 17
Federal Agents Raid 22 Minnesota Sites in Fraud Probe
FBI and Homeland Security agents executed 22 search warrants on Tuesday at businesses across the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area as part of a large-scale fraud investigation targeting alleged misuse of federal Medicaid and child-care funds. Officials said the operation was not related to immigration enforcement. Vice President Vance, who leads a White House fraud task force, said the administration “will not relent.” Federal prosecutors have previously suggested that fraud in Minnesota’s programs could total as much as $9 billion since 2018. 18, 19
Virginia High Court Expected to Rule Soon on Redistricting
Following Tuesday’s oral arguments, the Virginia Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling within weeks on whether the voter-approved redistricting referendum can take effect before the November midterms. A lower court has already permanently blocked certification of the results. The high court’s decision will determine whether new district lines could net Democrats up to four additional U.S. House seats in a contest that both parties say will decide control of Congress. 20, 21
