Trump Says Iran ‘Agreed to Everything,’ Including Removing Its Uranium
In a phone interview with CBS News on Friday, President Trump declared that Iran has agreed to every major U.S. demand, including permanently halting uranium enrichment and surrendering its enriched uranium stockpile. Trump said a formal agreement could come as early as this weekend, with U.S. negotiators set to meet Iranian officials in Pakistan on Sunday. He denied reports that the U.S. would release $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of any deal. Iran’s government contradicted Trump’s characterization within hours, saying its nuclear material will remain under Iranian sovereignty.1, 2, 3
Iran Declares Strait of Hormuz Open, Then Shuts It Down Hours Later
Iran’s foreign minister declared the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping on Friday following a U.S.-brokered Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, briefly sending oil prices sharply lower. Within hours, however, Iran’s IRGC announced that the strait had returned to its prior state of strict control, accusing the U.S. of “acts of piracy” for maintaining its naval blockade of Iranian ports. President Trump stated the blockade would remain fully in place until a permanent deal is signed, leaving the critical shipping lane’s status unresolved as the April 22 ceasefire deadline approaches.4, 5, 6
Omar Says She Isn’t a Multimillionaire, Blames Accounting Error
Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar filed an amended congressional financial disclosure on Friday, claiming that her original filing last May, which listed her household net worth at up to $30 million, contained major accounting errors. The amended filing now puts her and her husband’s shared assets at between $18,000 and $95,000. Her spokesperson said her husband’s two businesses, a California winery and a Washington venture capital firm, were incorrectly valued in the original form. The disclosure had drawn calls for a fraud investigation from President Trump and House Republicans, who noted the figures represented a 3,500 percent jump in reported wealth in a single year.7, 8, 9
Trump Rallies Arizona Conservatives, Vows ‘New Dawn for Cuba’ Is Near
President Trump headlined Turning Point USA’s “Build the Red Wall” rally at Dream City Church in Phoenix on Friday evening, urging the crowd to protect Republican congressional majorities in November. Trump declared the Iran war “essentially over” and told attendees that “a new dawn for Cuba” is coming “very soon,” hinting at expanded U.S. pressure against Havana once the Iran conflict concludes. Iran’s government denied Trump’s claims about a nuclear agreement within hours of his remarks, underscoring the gap between Trump’s public statements and the state of ongoing negotiations.10, 11

Texas Governor Threatens $200M Cut to Houston, Dallas, Austin Over ICE
Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Friday formally warned Dallas and Austin they risk losing more than $87 million in combined state public safety grants for enacting ordinances that limit police cooperation with federal immigration agents. The warning followed a similar letter sent to Houston earlier in the week threatening $110 million, including $55 million set aside for FIFA World Cup public safety funding. Abbott cited a Texas law requiring local governments to cooperate with ICE. All three cities have until April 23 to respond or face losing the funds.12, 13, 14
Maine Voters Speak Out: Collins’ 30-Year Senate Seat Now Seriously in Play
The New York Times published a deep-dive report on Friday drawing on interviews with Maine voters that found widespread frustration with incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, who is defending a seat she has held for three decades. The story reflects new polling showing Collins trailing both Democratic challengers: progressive oyster farmer Graham Platner and former two-term Governor Janet Mills. The race is being watched nationally as a potential bellwether for whether Republican senators in blue-leaning states can survive politically heading into November.15, 16
